Lip Dissolve Aftercare

Find out how a lip filler dissolving treatment works and the required aftercare to follow.

What is Lip Filler Dissolve?

Lip dissolve is an aesthetics treatment aimed at reducing or completely reversing the effects of a previous dermal lip filler treatment. This treatment is beneficial for anyone with lip filler complications or for individuals who are unsatisfied with their filler results, whether that be due to asymmetry, overfilling, or lumps.

The primary agent in lip dissolve treatment is an enzyme called hyaluronidase – this breaks down hyaluronic acid which is often the main component of many dermal lip fillers. Through the injection of hyaluronidase into the previously treated areas (the lips), the filler is dissolved and absorbed by the body, leaving the lips to return to how they looked before any previous treatments. It should be noted, however, that while the most common types of lip fillers are hyaluronic based, not all lip fillers are. Some contain other substances such as silicone, which cannot be dissolved using lip filler dissolve treatment.

What to Expect After Lip Dissolve Treatment

Visible Changes

Results should be seen almost immediately after treatment, with full effects becoming apparent within 48 hours as the filler gets broken down.

Swelling and Redness

It is very common to experience some initial swelling, tenderness, and redness at the injection sites after the procedure. These should subside within a few days.

Discomfort

Discomfort & Bruising: some individuals experience mild tenderness or bruising, which should fade within a week and has previously been managed using paracetamol for pain relief.

Follow-ups:

Results Evaluation: follow-up appointment is advised to be scheduled within the week to evaluate the results, discuss satisfaction, and decide whether additional treatment is needed.

Further sessions: sometimes more than one session is required to achieve the individual’s desired outcome depending on how much filler was initially injected, and how their body responds to the treatment.

These immediate results should gradually be followed by overall improvements which can take up to two weeks to develop while any remaining filler continues to dissolve, and the lips settle into a new shape.

Aftercare Advice

Additional Aftercare Support

Avoid Heat

Protect lips from direct sunlight as UV exposure can affect the healing process.

Avoid strenuous activities

Intense physical activity and exercise for the first 48 hours after treatment can increase bruising and swelling so refrain from anything that causes excessive sweating.

Managing Pain

If required, over-the-counter pain medications like paracetamol can be taken to reduce pain and inflammation.

Cold Compresses

If you would like, you can apply a cold/ice compress as soon as possible to help reduce swelling and discomfort. Use every few hours for the first 24 hours and never place ice directly on the skin.

Stay Hydrated

Drink plenty of water as dehydration can have a negative impact on results.
